Firstly, a brief overview of each day:
Day One:
Flight to Charles de Gaulle.
Get totally lost finding hotel - in fact it took longer to get from airport to hotel than it did to fly from Liverpool to Paris.
Fall asleep in room.
Explore area - discover the Red Light district around the corner (oops) but also - The Moulin Rouge! Happy Hannah.
Walk up through Montmartre (where we were staying) and find Church de Abbesses and the Sacre Coeur.
Day Two:
Up early, and off to Ile de la Cite, and the Notre Dame.
Climb 422 steps to the top of the tower, and admire the views.
See bell made famous by Quasimodo, etc.
Go to other side of island, to see Sant Chapelle, and most beautiful stained glass in Paris. Security a problem because, unbeknown to us, far away in London disaster was striking.
It rains, and is freezing, so we nip home for another nap and to find more clothes.
Back out again to the Musee d'Orsay, home of many Impressionist painting, such as Toulouse-Lautrec, and also a weird temporary display of shadow puppets in the main room. It used to be a train station, so it is a huge and impressive building.
Wander home through Red Light district (scary biscuits) but are rewarded with sight of Moulin Rouge all lit up. Happy Hannah!
Day Three:
Off to the Louvre - see Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, Victory, as well as Gericault's Raft of the Medusa and much more. Could have spent all week just in that museum.
Over the river to Musee d'Orsay to see the things we didn't get a chance to yesterday because it closed.
Wander down to the Rodin Museum, and see The Thinker, The Gates of Hell, The Burghers of Calais, and other things made memorable to me by our practice Editorial writing paper.
Home for a nap, then we make ourselves look pretty for a meal in the Latin Quarter with mother's friend Guy, who lectures in French at Liverpool and was over there for research. Wonderful meal, great company, and it's a change to be with someone who knows what everyone's saying...
Day Four:
More leisurely day today, but the last for our museum ticket.
Wander along the Left Bank and admire the old books and artifacts on sale there.
Visit Pantheon, another museum, home of Foucault's Pendulum, and also the final resting place of many famous French people, and also Antoine de Saint-Exupery.
From there, wander through Latin Quarter. See restaurant from last night, and browse shops.
Go to Arc de Triomphe, climb all the steps to admire view from there, but leave the Champs-Elysees for another day.
Day Five:
Day trip with Guy, mother's friend, to Versailles. I'm tired after night of throwing up but determined to stay awake enough to see palace.
I NEED MY OWN PALACE. Versailles is fantastic, and the gardens are huge.
Wander through Louis XVI's bedrooms, then through the garden just in time to see a fountain display.
Leave Versailles late afternoon, and return to Guy's tiny little apartment, rented for his research, where he cooks dinner for us and we marvel at how tiny the place is, how high up it is (eight floors and no lift) and what a good view you get from his windows.
Day Six:
We tackle Champs-Elysees this morning, are unimpressed by shops and prefer little touristy things (I buy a t-shirt saying PARIS) but at least we can say we did it.
See Place de Concorde, and what every city needs, a huge phallic monument.
Wander along the river to the Eiffel Tower. Queue up for an hour just to take lift to top. IT'S VERY HIGH UP. Suddenly remember why I don't like heights. View is worth it, however, and I take hundreds of photos of the Seine and rest of Paris from above.
We descend from the top, fall asleep in a nearby park, wake up enough to eat waffles from vendor, and then go home.
I take photos of stained glass windows in our hotel while mother sleeps.
Day Seven:
Our last full day, so we do things we've meant to do but not achieved yet.
Start with wander around Montmartre for last time, then Pere Lachais, the cemetery housing Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison, Chopin, Edith Piaf and others.
Am a squeeing fangirl over Oscar Wilde, and also find Gericault's grave, complete with reproduction of Raft of the Medusa.
We take a boat trip along the Seine, which is relaxing, informative, and a form of nostaliga as we've now seen most of the places shown along the route.
Fall asleep in nearby park, then wander through Latin Quarter for last time. We combine our final few Euros and spend them in lovely ethnic shop. I buy gorgeous purple dress and funky hat. We have our last crepes, on Rue Mouffetard, the famous Latin Quarter street.
We return to hotel for last time, so I take photo of it.
Day Eight:
Early start for flight. I take photo of view from window, and then we go home.
Now, bring out the photos.

My sister nearlly passed out on the top of Notre Dame cathedral because of the heat after climbing all the stairs. Heh.
The other time I went to paris was when we caught the Eurostar (we were with a tour company who had booked the whole train, and our group of 11 were the first there and were upgraded for free!) and our connecting snow-train was later in the day so we had a lovely breakfast in a large patisserie near the Gare du Nord.
I love Paris... We should have a lunatics trip there one day when we are all old and qualified and have Proper Jobs!

I think a Lunatic trip would be a fab idea, but it would have to be when we have very good Proper Jobs because it's such an expensive place to stay! :P
